The Redadeg 2026 word triskell
We have chosen three words for the theme of the Redadeg 2026, three words beginning in Breton with the letter B, for Brittany and the Breton language: Bevañ-living, Bodañ-gathering together ha Bezañ-being. We want to contribute to the reflection on the importance and value of language for each of us, but also for our country, Brittany.
Bevañ - Living}
Many people are attracted by Brittany, its landscapes, the spirit of its people, the beautiful houses on the coast.... But what does Living Brittany mean ? Via our culture? nature ? the forests ? the sea ? trade ? food ? Love ? Family ? Work ? The language ? By dancing, singing, teaching, painting, laughing...
In the world of poetry, dance, song, teaching, agriculture, the environment, art, audiovisuals, music, theater, activism, associations : these are precious fields of action on our round planet, on our peninsula at the very tip of Europe.
There are many players in these fields, and it’s time to invite them to become more aware, to take part in collective reflection and action to ensure that Breton is passed down from generation to generation!
Bodañ - Gathering
To form a community
According to linguists, each language is a societal fact, in other words a basis for the identity of a people and the way a society functions. An object that is both detached from and belonging to each individual. Does this mean that the Breton language is no longer a societal fact, because it is no longer spoken by many of its inhabitants, because it is no longer transmitted within families by the majority of people? Yet the Breton language remains a social language!
Each of us is an integral social being. We all love words and the idea of coming together. And what better than a language to bring people together ?
Breton language, a social language (1) is a great slogan for Redadeg 2026 ! Putting this concept of social language into practice, isn’t that the first step towards restoring the social fabric that we hold so dear ? The language of the family, the language of work, the language of the people, the language of the country !
Let’s gather around our language, at Redadeg, within our families and everywhere in society!}
Bezañ - Being
When it comes to being, we’re really in the realm of the intimate!
It’s about each person’s identity, each person’s imagination, each person’s values, each person’s creativity.
Rather than ‘I speak Breton’ or ‘I am a Breton speaker’, which seems a bit presumptuous... it would be better to say ‘the Breton language is a part of my being’, and this part is visible when I talk about culture, the arts, history, geography, being a Trégoroise or Trégorois, Bigoudène or Bigouden, a newcomer to Brittany or from the diaspora...
Defining yourself as a Breton and a Britton speaker is the basis. Showing it through your attitudes and actions is even better !
‘The Breton language is my country, the Breton that I am wrote one of the major writers on our language, Per-Jakez Helias. What do these words still mean today, almost 100 years later ?
Runners, mile-purchasers, volunteers of the Redadeg 2026, we submit to you these few lines which, we hope, will inspire you in your reflection before jumping into your trainers to come and run with us on the roads of Brittany, from Lannion to Nantes in May 2026.
It’s all very well to reflect, but let’s not forget the idea that guides us at the Redadeg ‘Brezhoneg ha Plijadur - Breton language and pleasure’... and the famous slogan : Betek an trec’h! - Until the victory!"
